DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Dubai Insurance launches crypto-enabled digital wallet that lets policy holders pay premiums and receive claim payouts using digital assets, the company said in an official press release.
The product was developed with crypto custodian Zodia Custody and marks a first for the UAE insurance sector.
The new digital wallet allows policyholders to use cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and other coins to pay for insurance premiums and get claims settled.
Dubai Insurance billed the rollout as a major step toward integrating digital assets into core financial services.
First insurer crypto wallet for premium and claims
The wallet was announced in a press release issued by Dubai Insurance on January 28, 2026.
Company executives said it enables secure, transparent receipt of premiums and payment of insurance claims using digital assets, a functionality they say sets a new standard for the sector.
In accompanying comments, Abdellatif Abuqurah, CEO of Dubai Insurance, said the launch aligns with the UAE’s broader goals to lead in digital finance and affirm the insurer’s role in adapting to market demand.
Institutional custody partner
Dubai Insurance partnered with Zodia Custody, an institutional digital asset custodian backed by multiple global financial institutions, to underpin the wallet’s technology and compliance.
Zodia’s platform offers bank-level custody and security controls that support custody of crypto assets and operational access.
Zane Suren, Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa at Zodia Custody, said the partnership helps bring digital assets into everyday financial services with transparency and trust.
Market and regulatory context
The UAE has been actively developing rules that require digital asset custodians and service providers to hold appropriate insurance coverage.
Analysts note that Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority mandates insurance coverage such as custody insurance, professional indemnity, and directors and officers insurance for licensed digital asset businesses.
In a separate regulatory milestone, the Central Bank of the UAE approved a custodial risk insurance product that Dubai Insurance and Asia’s OneDegree offer under the brand “OneInfinity,” positioning the UAE as a growing hub for crypto insurance solutions.
The approval addresses risks including hacking, fraud, and custodial loss for digital asset holders.
Industry reaction
The initiative has drawn attention as a business innovation in financial services. One report highlighted Dubai’s move to allow insurance premiums to be paid with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, suggesting that tech-oriented residents and investors may be particularly interested in the alternative payment option.
