Lloyds Bank is making banking simpler for its customers with a fresh mobile app update. Starting August 26, 2025, users can deposit cash at more than 30,000 PayPoint spots across the UK. These include corner shops, supermarkets, and newsagents. This makes Lloyds the first big UK bank to offer this service right through its app.
The feature uses a barcode system. Customers open the Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland app and go to the “everyday” section. They create a barcode that’s good for two hours. At a PayPoint store, they scan it and hand over notes and coins. The money shows up in their account in minutes.
There are limits to keep things safe. You can deposit up to £300 a day and £600 a month. This adds to other ways to bank, such as Lloyds branches or over 11,500 Post Offices.
Why now? With bank branches closing, many people need easier ways to handle cash. Lloyds says this helps during daily routines. “Our latest app feature now allows customers to pay in cash at their local PayPoint in just a few minutes – ideal if they are popping in for milk,” a spokesperson noted.
This isn’t Lloyds’ only recent upgrade. The app now has a “Further Ahead” tab. It shows bills that come less often, like quarterly or yearly payments. This aids in planning finances better. Other tools include payment alerts, face or fingerprint login, freezing cards, and managing subscriptions.
Experts praise the move. It boosts access to banking services in a digital world. PayPoint, a key partner, calls it a “super-charge” for customer choice. Many stores are open longer hours, making it handy for busy folks.
For those worried about security, the barcode is short-lived and tied to your app. Funds transfer quickly and safely. Lloyds stresses this complements, not replaces, other options.
Customers should update their app to use it. Check the Lloyds website for details on how to pay money into accounts. This update shows banks adapting to needs for both cash and digital banking.
