The Sonic airdrop is big news for cryptocurrency fans. It plans to give out 190,500,000 S tokens to people using the Sonic blockchain and Opera network, which is tied to Fantom. Organized by Sonic Labs, this event encourages activity on a fast, low-cost blockchain built for decentralized finance (DeFi).
You can earn tokens by holding assets, joining DeFi apps, or playing games. Claims begin in June 2025, with 25% of tokens available right away and the rest unlocking over time. Here’s what you need to know.
What Is the Sonic Airdrop?
Sonic Labs created the Sonic airdrop to reward users. The Sonic blockchain is a Layer-1 system that works with Ethereum tools and focuses on DeFi. It can handle up to 400,000 transactions per second with quick confirmations. The airdrop hands out S tokens, used to pay fees on the network. These tokens are already trading on platforms like Binance.
The airdrop aims to get more people using the Sonic chain and Opera network, likely Fantom’s mainnet. By giving away tokens, Sonic Labs wants to grow its community and add liquidity. This is a popular move in DeFi to bring in early users.
How to Earn Sonic Points
To get S tokens, you earn Sonic Points. The more points you have, the more tokens you receive. Here are the ways to earn them:
- Hold Assets
Keep specific assets in Web3 wallets like Rabby or MetaMask. Hardware wallets are fine, but centralized exchanges don’t count. Eligible assets include USDC.e, scUSD, WETH, and others. Some assets boost your points more—USDC.e and scUSD give 6 times the points, while WETH and USDT give 2 times. Check the full list on Sonic Labs. - Use DeFi Apps
Put your assets into DeFi apps to earn double points compared to just holding them. Both assets in a pair must be on the whitelist, or you get nothing. See approved apps at my.soniclabs.com. - Play Games
Earlier, users earned points by playing Sonic Arcade games like Plinko and Mines on the testnet. That event is over, but those points will count in June 2025. - Mint the Shard NFT
If you minted the Shard NFT, you qualify for rewards. Exact details are unclear, but it’s another way to join. - Past Opera Activity
If you used the Opera network before, your history might earn you points. The rules aren’t fully explained yet.
Track your points on the Points Dashboard. The first earning phase ends in June 2025, so you still have time.
Claiming Your Tokens
Claims start in June 2025. Here’s how it works:
- First Claim
You can take 25% of your tokens right away. For example, if you have 1,000 S tokens, you get 250 S immediately. - Vesting Schedule
The other 75% unlocks over 270 days. You get a small amount daily for nine months. These tokens come as NFTs, which you might trade, according to an X post. - Early Claims
Want your tokens sooner? You can claim early, but some get burned. The earlier you claim, the more you lose. Claim in the first 30 days, and you could lose up to 100%. Wait 90 days, and it drops to about 66.7%. Waiting longer reduces the loss.
Here’s a quick look at the burn rates:
| Days Waited | Burn Percentage |
|---|---|
| 0–30 | 100%–88.9% |
| 31–60 | 88.9%–77.8% |
| 61–90 | 77.8%–66.7% |
| 91–120 | 66.7%–55.6% |
| 121–150 | 55.6%–44.4% |
This setup keeps too many tokens from hitting the market at once, helping the token’s value stay stable.
Who Can Join?
Not everyone is eligible. People from places like the United States, Russia, and North Korea can’t participate. See the full list in the official docs. Geoblocking and other tools enforce these rules.
Points are tracked by OpenBlock and Sentio for fairness and security.
Things to Know
- Staking S tokens on MySonic won’t earn points. Use stS via Beets instead.
- You can buy S tokens on Binance or bridge them with Rhino Bridge, but that’s separate from the airdrop.
- There’s another Sonic project on Solana with $SONIC tokens. This airdrop is from Sonic Labs, so double-check which one you’re joining.
Final Thoughts
The Sonic airdrop gives crypto users a chance to earn S tokens by getting involved with the Sonic blockchain. It offers several ways to earn points and a clear claiming process. As June 2025 gets closer, visit the Points Dashboard to see your progress. Plan your claims carefully—waiting can save you from losing tokens to burns.
